The catalogue is published on the occasion of the exhibition in the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest in 2012-2013.
Honoré Daumier's graphic work comprises close to 4000 lithographs, and 1000 woodcuts, executed by others after the master, primarily for the purpose of book illustrations. The Museum of Fine Arts has custody of close to 600 lithographs, amlost 150 woodcuts and 4 drawings from this huge oeuvre. The museum has already held four monographic exhibition of Daumier's works on paper in 1915, in 1929, 1953 and 1979. The timeliness of this exhibition is justified by the fact, with the support of the National Cultural Fund, in 2009 the restorers of the Department of Prints and Drawings carried out neccessary work with regard to preservation of the stock. As the result of an exemplary artwork protection scheme, around 150 works on paper could be put on display for the Budapest public.
