The Marriage of Heaven and Hell - William Blake (1757–1827) and His Contemporaries

Elérhetőség: 9 db raktáron

"The Marriage of Heaven and Hell – William Blake (1757–1827) and His Contemporaries brings the extraordinary imagination of William Blake to audiences in Budapest. An artist, poet and visionary, Blake defies easy categorisation. His creative world was one of intense symbolism, an intricate universe where the seen and unseen, the sacred and profane, co-exist. This exhibition invites Hungarian audiences to enter that world and to discover how the turbulent era in which Blake lived inspired his generation of artists to explore the extremes of horror and beauty, seeking sources both in historical texts and their own imaginations.
Blake’s life spanned a period of revolution, war and profound social change. While he remains the central figure of this exhibition, placing his work alongside that of his contemporaries reveals the breadth and intensity of the Romantic imagination in Britain. Themes of fantasy, terror, enchantment, history and prophecy thread through these works, and in this context, this exhibition’s title The Marriage of Heaven and Hell reflects the charged dualities at the heart of the Romantic spirit." - excerpt from the foreword by Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate
