"In May 2010 the Department of Egyptian Antiquities of the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest organised an international conference under the title Art and Society: Ancient and Modern Contexts of Egyptian Art. Understanding art as well as its contemporary and later interpretations as social products, our aim was to bring together researchers engaged in the study of Egyptian art history and social history in order to facilitate a discussion on ancient Egyptian art focusing on its roles in and implications for ancient and modern/current societies. It was also hoped that the conference would provide a forum at which the findings of recent interdisciplinary research work could be presented, and that such forum would serve to encourage further studies in that direction."
